The name is perfectly suited because the center group of petals look like a bird's nest resting on the larger outer circle of petals. As a medium lotus, this one settles at 6 to 18 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
