Chinese Red Zunyi - Red City Series Lotus (Bare Root)

Nelumbo nucifera ‘Zhongguohong Zunyi’ — medium lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.

Another brilliant red lotus in the Chinese City Series by Master Ding Yueshueng, Red Zunyi has rounded petals around a golden receptacle and dark, lush green leaves. Zunyi produces a more compact plant and is perfectly suited for growing in slightly smaller spaces than all of the other in the Red City Series other than Shanghai which is a medium-sized lotus. Red seed pods can be removed and used in dried flower arrangements to add a pop of color for a few weeks (they will eventually turn brown).

As a medium lotus, this one settles at 6 to 18 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
