Elite Red - Sweet Flowers Lotus (Bare Root)

Nelumbo nucifera — dwarf lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.

Frilly golden stamen surrounds a yellow-green receptacle. Bright pink petals of the first day flower are shaped like a star. The fully opened flower is especially nice when viewed from the side because the petals separate distinctly into layers. This lotus has a very spicy scent. 'Elite Red' will reach about 20"-24" tall in a 20" diameter pot but can be grown as a miniature if a small pot is used.

As a dwarf lotus, this one settles at 2 to 12 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
