False Moonlight Lotus (Bare Root)

Nelumbo nucifera — medium lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.

A delightful medley of rich colors. False Moonlight has a rainbow of different shades on the same flower, from vibrant pink to glowing yellow gold. This lovely flower is a stable variation of Moonlight Over Qinhuai that we received from a grower in Vietnam. It grows and flowers very well for us. Early spring flowers usually have petaloids instead of ovules and often have a lovely 'crown' but when the weather gets hot the flowers will produce a regular seed pod with viable seeds.

As a medium lotus, this one settles at 6 to 18 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
