Jinling Jasper Lotus (Bare Root)

Nelumbo nucifera — medium lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.

Always one of the first lotus to bloom. Huge flowers boast petals with a dazzling clear yellow color that are perfectly contrasted by the emerald green receptacle and bright orange stamen. We found this variety to be one of the earliest bloomers at the nursery. Be sure to enlarge the photo of all the plants and count the huge seed pods! This is the perfect cultivar for collecting seed pods for holiday decorations! Jinling Jasper begins to bloom in lower temperatures than many other varieties so this one might be a good choice for areas with cooler spring weather.

As a medium lotus, this one settles at 6 to 18 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
