Large Purple Jade Lotus (Bare Root)

Nelumbo nucifera ‘Da Ziyu’ — large pond lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.

Beautiful color and full flowers are trademarks of 'Large Purple Jade'. The first day colors are sweet and lovely. The exceptionally well-formed flower holds its shape well and does well as a cut flower in arrangements. The strong purple violet (red) color of the petals contrasted to the golden yellow of the receptacle makes this lotus a favorite! The flowers are considered to have a strong scent by the Chinese. The descriptive word 'large' in the name refers to the flower size, not the plant height.

As a large pond lotus, this one settles at 12 to 24 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
