It has a 5 gallon capacity and as the tank fills it will automatically shut off and drain the dirty water out the back to your grass or a drain. When it is empty it turns itself on automatically again and continues to vacuum again. The on\/off cycle is approx. 30 seconds vacuum and 25 seconds drain out.
