Prosperous Purple Lotus (Bare Root)

Nelumbo nucifera ‘Zi Rui’ — large pond lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.

Rich, Decadent Beauty. 'Prosperous Purple' is known around the world as a stellar lotus with really big leaves and Enormous flowers! As I walked through Yileen Gardens in Nanjing I took this picture and immediately found someone to translate the name for me. All the other pictures were taken here at the nursery. As a large pond lotus, this one settles at 12 to 24 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
