Ruby Gardner - A Piece of Alabama History Lotus (Bare Root)
Nelumbo nucifera — large pond lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.
Ruby Gardner is a classic, single-wing lotus that thrives in a very large pot or an earth-bottom pond in order to live its best life! Collected by Steve Stroupe in an heirloom North Alabama pond, the name had long been forgotten so Steve named it after the pond owner, Mrs. Ruby Gardner. Whatever the name, this lotus is beautiful and definitely needs to be saved!

As a large pond lotus, this one settles at 12 to 24 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered. Pot size, soil and the rest of the method are in the lotus planting instructions.
