Tulip Lotus (Bare Root)

Nelumbo nucifera ‘Shirokunshi’ — large pond lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.

The full name is 'Shirokunshi Tulip Lotus'. Large white flowers are held high above leaves. The flower is cup-shaped, meaning that the petals are up-right ( see diagram found in 'How to Classify Lotus' under the 'How to. Grow Lotus' tab on the main page). 'Tulip Lotus' is a classic single-petal lotus which is perfectly elegant.

As a large pond lotus, this one settles at 12 to 24 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
